This indicates a situation in which a person fails to maintain sufficient living standards for a comfortable lifestyle. Although India boasts of a high economic growth, it is shameful that poverty is still largely in India. Poverty in India can be defined as a condition when a certain section of people meets their basic needs Is unable to

The number of poor people living in the same country in India is the largest number in the world. Of the total population of more than 1 billion, 350 to 400 million people are living below the poverty line. According to World Bank estimates, 21.3% of India's population is below the international poverty line of 1.90 dollars per day.

Several committees have been established in India to estimate poverty in the country. These include the National Planning Committee (1938), the Yeh Alhagh Committee (1979), the Lakawwalla Committee (2011) and the Suresh Tendulkar Committee (2005). Current estimates of poverty are based on the recommendation of the Suresh Tendulkar Committee. The committee recommended separation from the calorie-based model and formed the basis by considering the poverty line in some broadly on monthly expenses on education, health, electricity and transport.

There are many reasons for poverty in India, which are as follows.

    • Rapidly growing population has reduced India's per capita income. Therefore, the level of standard of living has also declined significantly. If the country is more and more, then a large part of the income is spent on consumption and there is very little savings for development activities.
    • Unemployment is an important cause of poverty in India, many people do not have the job of maintaining themselves and their families.
    • 60% of the population in India depends on agriculture. But the situation in agriculture is bad. Farmers are poor and uneducated. They do not have any good irrigation facilities. They do not have time to get seeds and fertilizers, all of which leads to poor yield.
    • There is also a wide gap between poverty between both rich and poor for poverty in India. The rich are growing rich, the poor are growing poor.
    • Inflation also leads to poverty because the income earned by poor people is not enough to buy the basic needs of life. The increase in the price of one object forces them to live in poverty.

Poverty also has adverse consequences for the country to a large extent. This is the main cause of inadequate diet and inadequate nutrition that the resources of poor people are very limited and its effects can be seen in their diet. Poverty is often characterized by the inequality and uneven distribution of national property among the rich and the poor.

Besides this woman is the poorest of the poorest of the poor because it affects more women than men. There is a total number of poor women in the total population of poor women, they are deprived of proper diet, medicines and health treatment. Poverty is one of the strongest reasons for increasing child labor in India. Due to low income of parents, their children have to be involved in various jobs which leads to child labor.

In order to deal with the issue of poverty, the Government of India has started various poverty alleviation programs. Some of them are worth mentioning

    • Swarnjayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojna, 1999, to provide permanent income to the poorest people living in rural and urban areas of the country.
    • Employment Assurance Scheme, 1993, for generating additional wages for job opportunities during the period of heavy shortage of wages through manual work for the rural poor living below the poverty line.
  • To create supplemental employment opportunities • Program for work, 2004
    • Integrated water management program to restore ecological balance through the use, preservation and development of degraded natural resources.
    • Prime Minister's Employment Plan to provide employment to educated youth, who are not employed.
    • Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), whose adult members work unskilled manual to increase livelihood security by providing employment in guaranteed manner for a minimum of 100 days in a financial year for each rural family.

In addition to these government initiatives, many steps can be taken to prevent or eradicate poverty in India.

In order to control rising poverty, the growth rate of grain production as a whole has not increased beyond population growth. Increased production of per capita will ensure steady supply and stable value, if the poor are given jobs according to their needs and talents. Poverty can end. Self employment can also be provided to them. If the country's population can be reduced to an average level then many problems of poverty can be solved.

The resources of the country should be used properly so that we can take advantage of the free gifts of those natures.

To spread awareness for education, the government should take steps so that people do not rely on others for their income. Agriculture is the backbone of our country. This provides income for many people; therefore, there should be a rise in agriculture. Inflation goes to make poor poor and rich rich. There should be stability in the price level of the country. The government should develop cottage, handicrafts and other small scale industries in the backward areas of the country, apart from this it will move resources from the surplus areas to the deficit areas that solve the problem of urbanization.

Therefore, one should keep in mind that poverty is a threat and should be investigated. The above steps would be useful in preventing poverty in India. This is a national problem and therefore it should be resolved at the level of the war. Poverty eradication will ensure a sustainable and inclusive growth of the economy and society.

Regardless of India's achievement of achieving Millennium Development Goals of extreme poverty and eradication of hunger between 1990 and 2015, however, steps need to be taken to achieve the goal as early as possible. To help reduce our poverty from our country, we all should do everything possible and within our borders.
