The history of Indian education system is in the times of Ramayana and Mahabharata. Historical Indian education system is synonymous with Gurukula system. Guru (teacher) and infant (master) who lived together under a roof in Gurukula. Shishya was expected to help the guru in the daily work as part of the education of anybody. The children had taught all subjects from Sanskrit to spiritual scriptures in spiritual scriptures and mathematics by the gurus. The Gurukul system was focused on the practical aspects of life. Students were taught in open field in the vicinity of nature. This system of education continued for many years until the modern education system came in the picture.

In the beginning of the 19th century, the modern education system was brought to our country by Lord Thomas Babbington Macaulay. This was the cornerstone examination of the education system and a well-defined course in which subjects such as science and mathematics were given importance and subjects like philosophy, metaphysics were given back seats. Open classes in Gurukula were replaced by brick and mortar classes. The essence of master Shishya bond was lost between a more formal relationship between the teacher and the student. Examinations were held at intervals to study and understand the student. To remember the concepts from learning to focus on the education system, shifted to score good points in the examinations.

Instead of understanding the concepts, the students started crushing things. Under the auspices of modern education system, separate boards were set up in the country, the Uttar Pradesh High School Board and Intermediate Education were the first board to be established in India. Later, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Indian Secondary Education Certificate (ICSE) was established. In addition to the previous national level boards, each state has state boards, schools affiliated with these boards must follow the guidelines of the respective boards. Apart from this, there is the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) which is a board for distance education and belongs to the Government of India.

It offers several professional, life-enriching and community-oriented courses in addition to academic and general courses. At present secondary education is based on the CCE (Continued Comprehensive Evaluation) Pattern. There are government, private and semi-government schools across the country. The Right to Education (RTE) Act provides free and compulsory primary education to our children. In India, the school education comes under the control of the Educational Research and Training Council (NCERT), which helps the central and state governments on educational matters. It provides support and technical support for different schools and looks at matters related to education policy.

It formats, publishes and recommends school textbooks and is involved in research, development, training, dissemination, exchange programs. Institutions of higher education in India are Universities, Universities, Private Colleges, State and Open Universities and Colleges. Higher education is governed by the University Grants Commission (UGC), which plays an important role in ignoring higher education, fund allocation and the recognition of universities. National Accreditation and Assessment Council (NAAC) is the assessment and ranking authority for universities and colleges. Apart from this, the All India Technical Education Council (AICTE) was established to monitor various aspects of technical and vocational education.

All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) has started conducting a common entrance examination for the MBA. Ministry of Human Resource Development has started a single all-India entrance test for engineering in UG programs in order to reduce the level of stress among the students. The Indian Medical Council (MCI) has taken all-India level examination and the eligibility exam for the general teacher has also been started. Growing up in private schools and colleges in the country, but the results made by them are not satisfactory. Modern education system is more based on remembering, remembering rather than learning and understanding the concepts. Knowledge is given back seat. From primary level, most children's goal is to earn good points rather than good knowledge.

In the last two decades, the education sector of India has increased manifold. The entrance of private sector players in this segment has increased the investment in terms of money and infrastructure. With this, the revolution in education has been completely revolutionized and education has become more commercialized since these days. The private players in the segment have justified their existence to meet and match the global standards of education. High fees for the sky and the schools of schools and colleges have forced the students to go for bank loan to complete their studies. At the level of higher education, market experts claim that compared to their counterparts from developed countries the potential of Indian professionals is quite low. The above statement is supported by the fact that none of the Indian universities could find place in the list of top 200 universities globally. Such things definitely point to some major flaws in our education system that need to be improved. In India, the education system is beyond satisfaction to teach the teacher. To keep updated about the latest developments in the field of education, workshops should be organized on a regular basis to educators. India works for millions of engineers and professionals every year, but only a fraction of this number is actually employable. There is a wide skill difference and it is our exam system which is responsible for this detailed skill difference. The exam system focuses more on scoring good points than the actual constant evaluation.

Research and development which should be the cornerstone of our system, is given less importance. Private colleges and universities have more attention to the students and they are less interested in the quality of their education. The lack of qualified and specialized faculty is clear from the fact that a single professor has been entrusted to teach many disciplines. Most of these institutions are violating norms of regulatory bodies such as AICTE, UGC etc. Making a presence globally with IIT, IIM, AIIMS, it is high time for other educational institutions to follow their footsteps. All other people and institutions related to the government, as well as the education sector, need to understand the importance of quality education in the development of our country. Education is a holistic process that should focus on the overall physical, emotional, social and cognitive development of a child. It needs to be a slow and cyclic process and to move slowly to help the child develop in the form of an autonomous, independent and knowledgeable person.

An educated person is one who should be able to contribute to the economic and social development of society along with the society. The right goal of education is much more than giving degrees and certificates to students. Education is not a tool to earn livelihood, but it is a way of liberating one's mind and soul.
