The dictionary defines ambition as a strong desire to achieve a specific goal in life. It is the inordinate desire for preferment, honour, superiority, power or attainment of something. A man by nature is an ambitious being. Over the years this nature of man did not change a sad but true fact is that he may go to any extent to achieve his goals and fulfill his desires. Our history provides testimony of the wars fought between the kings to fulfill their ambitions and desires.

The fourteen days Mahabharata was waged to claim the throne. Alexander the Great and Genghis Khan are some of the names in the history who had the ambition to become the most powerful people on this Earth. In the pursuit of their ambitions, they had waged many wars at the cost of human lives. Even the massive bloodshed and massacre caused by the wars couldn't deter their ambitions.

Adolf Hitler is touted as the most ambitious person on this Earth. He subjected the people to harsh atrocities just to fulfill his ambition, to prove the superiority of the Aryan clan.

Nothing has changed over the time. Even today, the countries are indulging in wars just to fulfill their ambitions. None of the countries think about the devastating effects of these wars on the peace and tranquility of the involved nations and the world The world has been engulfed by the spite of terrorism. Global terrorism has paved way to brutal killings, hijacks, murders, human trafficking, and other forms of violence.

If we analyse psychologically the ambitions of terrorists overpower them so much that they are not able to see the repercussions of such activities. Ambitions of politicians to become more powerful and remain in power make them blind towards people's problems and development of the nation. All the above examples provide strong evidences that despite all the advancements made by man, he is not satisfied.

His hunger for power is increasing. The root causes of the majority of crimes committed in the society are money and power. Man is hardly bothered of the results of his actions on others' lives. There is just a thin line of difference between being ambitious and being over ambitious. The repercussion starts appearing when this line is crossed Beyond this line, the lust for power overshadows an individual's capacity to think and take decisions. He is unable to think rationally and differentiate between the right or wrong.

Ambitious people are not restricted to a certain sphere of our lives. In fact, they can be found in both the personal and professional spheres of our lives. Undoubtedly, ambitions are the driving factors on the road to success. It would never have been possible for us to lead a comfortable life if our ancestors had no ambitions to move out of the caves in search of a better life.

All the technological inventions, innovations and discoveries are the fruit of the ambitions and hardwork of some ambitious individuals. We need to understand that being ambitious is nor altogether bad In fact, ambitions must be targeted to fight all the odds and become successful in life but not at the cost of others.
