Rajarshi Purushottam Das Tandon was born on August 1, 1882 in Ahiyapur, Allahabad. Tandanji was very quick to write and read from the beginning. After passing the high school examination, they got married. He was a very good player of cricket and chess. At the same time, he was also deeply interested in his politics.

On July 29, 1936, all the members of the Legislative Assembly nominated Tandanji as the Speaker in one voice. Purvottam Das Tandon was sentenced to jail during the 'Quit India Movement' on August 18, 1942. He was kept in Bareilly jail But due to poor health, they were released.

In 1948, the famous saint Devarah Baba gave him the title of 'Rajarshi'.

Tandenji has been engaged for a lifetime of Hindi development. He established Hindi University in Allahabad. Tandanji was his first teacher. He is also the editor of 'Abhyudaya', a letter to be published from Allahabad.

In 1952, he was elected a member of the Lok Sabha from Allahabad area. On April 27, 1961, he was awarded the title of 'Bharat Ratna', the highest civilian honor of the country.

On 1 July 1962, this great freedom fighter and social reformer died.
