Organ donation campaign / organ donation drive by Times of India

  • A message by the Times of India to all of us:
  • A son's mother said that her son would return home for her 9th birthday.
  • Why is he lying?
  • Because, she can not tell her son that her liver is bad. She can not tell her that she is one of the millions of Indians who need organ transplantation. But there are not enough organ donors.
  • He does not really have any choice, but we can do it to be in real life through our organ donation. We need to 'sign up' to become an organ donor and increase the chances of his son's life.
  • So, is he still a liar ??? It depends on us

According to the Times of India statistics

Most organ donations throughout the country are only among their kin, meaning that a person donates organs only to his relatives. In different hospitals, only about 4000 Kidneys and 500 calves are donated by their relatives annually for their patients. He donates his kidneys and ¾ his liver (because he can come in normal condition after 6 weeks). About 20 heart and lung transplants are done in the center of Chennai, whereas demand is very high. Requires 2 million cornea transplants per year whereas only 50000 donations are made. Due to the lack of clarity and misunderstanding, there is a decrease in the action of organ donation by Indians, rather than more awareness about the subject.
