Different Stage of Personality Test of UPSC

Feed by Manisha Cat- UPSC

Though it might look a bit of an academic exercise to mention and explain the various stages of the Personality Test, please bear with me for few minutes and I will explain to you that this understanding will form the bedrock of your success in the Personality Test. The Personality Test has the following there stages:

Pre Interview stage:

This is the stage wherein the face to face contact between the candidate and the board does not take place. This is the stage in which the board forms its first opinion about the candidate from the information it gets through the Detailed Application Form (DAF) that he/she has submitted.

You might be pondering as to why at all this phase is being discussed. After all, the Personality Test starts when the candidate meets the Board face to face. The answer is that this is a very important phase of the Personality Test. This phase leaves a very lasting impact on mind of the Board members and it is this impression of the candidate that sets the tone and tenor of the questions. Also, the researchers have pointed out that what the Board thinks about the candidate before it actually meets him/her goes a long way in deciding how it would score him/her after he/she has left.

Hence the point that I am trying to bring to your attention is that your Personality Test actually starts with the filling of the Detailed Application Form (DAF), many months ahead of the actual interview. Therefore, it becomes imperative to fill this form very carefully. For further details kindly see the articles “How to Filling of the Detailed Application Form (DAF)”.

Interview Stage:

This is the actual interview which we understand in the conventional sense. And this is the stage which is being dealt by this book in detail.

Post-interview stage:

This is the stage which seals your fate. This is the phase in which the candidate is being awarded the score by the Board. The score that the candidate will get will depend upon the impression being made during the actual interview. Here it becomes imperative to mention that the last few minutes of interview are very critical for the final evaluation. Therefore, when you start getting the sense that this could probably be the last or one of the last questions, try to be very disciplined, focused and extra cautions in answering. The adage “All is well that ends well” should be implemented here. If you can unsure that you can end the Personality Test at a high, there are big chances that you might get away from some mistakes made earlier during the course of the Personality Test.

I hope that by this time you can appreciate that this was not an academic exercise and understating the various stages of the Personality Test accurately is indeed the first strong and right step in the direction of the preparation.
