The Initial Few Minutes on UPSC Interview Day

Feed by Manisha Cat- UPSC

Goes a very important saying, "first impression is the last impression" This saying is very important in the context of your Personality Test as well. Generally it has been seen that the impression the Board forms in the first few minutes is very crucial and has a great impact in deciding the overall score the candidate will score.

Therefore, ensure that from the very start your every move and word is absolutely correct. Gently knock the door and seek the permission to enter. Once asked to do so, enter into the interview room with a smile on your face and a positive body language; walk at the normal pace and smartly, directly to the place where your chair is placed. Your facial expressions and the body language should be absolutely calm. Greet all the Board members very politely and if there is a lady member in the group wish her first. Otherwise Chairperson should be wished first and thereafter all the Board members.

You should take your seat only after being asked to do so by the Board members and should always thank them for that. Thank them while looking at them with a smile on your face. While taking the seat if you need to drag it, you should do it very sophisticatedly, without making much noise. Adjust your chair at a proper distance from the table. And once you have settled down on the chair, make yourself comfortable and sit very formally and in a positive and confident manner.

Here I would like to mention certain important points related to your body language. The hands should preferably be kept on your lap. There should be no crossing of the ankles and sitting with one leg placed over the other is an absolute no. The arms should not be crossed, the legs should not be shaken, hands should not be in the pocket and you should avoid placing your hands on the table also.
