IFS Examination Pattern & Syllabus

The Indian Forest Examination will now consist of:
A) Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination (usually conducted in May every year) - objective type paper
B) Indian Forest Service (Main) Examination (usually conducted in September every year) - (written exam + interview)

A) Civil Services Preliminary Examination

The Civil Services (Preliminary) Exam is an objective type paper which acts as a screening test to select candidates for the Indian Forest Service (Main) Examination.

There are two objective types of question paper (multiple choice questions) for the 400 marks in the initial examination.

Each paper will be of 200 points and every 2 hours. However, visually impaired candidates will be provided additional 20 minutes for each paper.

Since this is an eligibility examination, the marks obtained in this examination are not calculated for determining the final order of any candidate's qualification if it also passes for the main exam.

The medium of question paper will be both English and Hindi. However, the skills of language level understanding of tenth grade level will be tested only in the English language without the passage of any Hindi translations.

Note: For all questions except for a few questions, there will be negative marking for wrong answers (detailed information below), where negative marking will be inbuilt as separate digits, which are being given to the most suitable and There is no appropriate answer for such questions. .

  • (i) There are four options to answer each question. For every wrong answer to any question, 1/3 of the points allotted in that search will be deducted.
  • (ii) If there is more than one answer for any question, then there will also be a cut of 1/3 of that question.
  • (iii) There will be no negative marking for unanswered questions.

Note: Candidates must write their own papers. Except blind candidates, no candidate can take help from any scribe to write the exam.

Since there may be a general candidate for the Civil Services Examination and the Indian Forest Service Examination, after the general screening test conducted through the Civil Services (Preliminary) examination, a separate list is prepared for the candidates appearing in the Civil Services (Main) Examination. Paper I - 200 marks, 2 hours

  • Current events of national and international importance
  • History of India and Indian National Movement

  • Indian Polity and Governance - Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.
  • Economic and Social Development Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector initiatives, etc.
  • General issues on Environmental Ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change - that do not require subject specialization.
  • General Science.

Paper II - 200 marks, 2 hours

  • Comprehension
  • Interpersonal skills including communication skills
  • Logical reasoning and analytical ability
  • Decision-making and problem-solving
  • General mental ability
  • Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. - Class X level)
  • English Language Comprehension skills (Class X level)

B) Indian Forest Service (Main) Examination

Indian Forest Service (Main) Examination is for 1700 marks (1400 marks for written examination and 300 marks for personality test)

i) Written Examination - There are 6 papers of traditional essay type for 1400 marks in the written examination. The question paper will only be set in English and the answer will be to answer only in English. Each of the six letters will be 3 hours long. For blind candidates, additional 30 minutes per paper will be allowed.

Candidates must write papers themselves Except blind candidates, no candidate can take help from any scribe to write the exam.

The UPSC has the right to determine the marks passed in any or all of the exams. Marks can be cut if the candidate's handwriting is not clear and easy to read. In all subjects of the examination, credits will be given for joint, effective and accurate expression, with the proper economy of words.

SI units should be used wherever necessary. Candidates should use the international form of Indian digits (eg 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, etc.) when answering question papers.

Candidates will be allowed to use scientific (non-programmable type) calculator in traditional type tests of UPSC. Programmable type calculator will not be allowed, but candidates will be considered equal to using such calculator to resort to inappropriate means. Calculators' loans and interchanges are not allowed in the examination hall.

6. Of the Engineering subjects viz. Agricultural Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering - not more than one subject.

 

IFS Main Exam Syllabus

Normal English and General Knowledge will have standard of papers that may be expected from the science or engineering graduate of any Indian university.

The scope of the curriculum for the optional subject paper for the examination is broadly above the honors degree level i.e. the graduation level degree and less than the masters degree. In the case of engineering disciplines, level corresponds to Bachelors degree.

There will be no practical examination in any subject.

  • General English - Candidates will be required to write an essay in English. Other questions will be designed to test the understanding of English and the use of words work. Normally the routes will be determined for summaries or summaries.
  • General Knowledge - With the knowledge of current events and their scientific aspects, such cases of observation and experience every day can be expected from general knowledge, an educated person who has not studied any scientific subject. In this way, at least two questions will be attempted from each part i.e. one mandatory question and one more.
