Zip code day is celebrated every year on July 1. The zip code system was established in the United States since 1963. Zone Improvement Plan is short for Zip; Initially the zip code was introduced to help travel faster and more efficiently. Mail went more effectively when the postal address was connected to the code. The five-digit ZIP code (Zip + 4) determines a fixed location and was established in 1983. This system has increased the accuracy of reaching a particular address, speed of mail. Nowadays, the zip code system is used by geographical statistics, internet routing, credit card authorization, identification of legislative districts and many insurance companies, distribution services etc. U.S. Postal Service had registered the first zip code word. Zip Code Day celebrates this invention which helps millions of people in different ways.

History of zip code day

Zip code celebrates the invention of code 5 digit code within the United States during 1983. The creator of the day remains unknown. It is believed that the postal code was developed with postal district numbers or postal zone numbers, which helped the carriers reach the right place since 1900. By the end of World War II many major cities started using postal codes. The zip code was first detected by Henry Bentley Han, senior, a postal inspector, who later became J. Edward was made practical by the postmaster general. In 1962, the Post Office announced the zip code system for the public and they introduced a character named Mr Zip to inspire people to use the code. Since 1967, the Post Office made use of zip code mandatory for bulk mailers. Zip + 4, introduced in 1984, was even better.

Celebrate Zip Code Day by teaching more people about zip code and about it. Some countries mark the day by matching the daytime date of the zip code with the zip code of their country. You enjoy the day by placing the cake and cup cake with the zip code theme on it. Celebrate the day by learning the importance of the zip code.
