ShahajiRaje Bhosale, father of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, built this historic monument in Pune. Lal Mahal has a historical significance in the history of Maharashtra and Maratha empire.

Lal Palace (Red Palace) is one of Pune's most famous monuments. This beautiful palace was built by ShahajiRaje Bhosale in 1630 for his wife Jijabai and son Shivaji Maharaj. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj spent most of his childhood in this palace after leaving his birthplace Shivneri.

Shivaji Maharaj used to remain in Lal Mahal till the tomb of the Mughal Empire in 1646. Shivaji Maharaj was married to Saibai in this palace.

Rani Jijabai and Shivaji Maharaj came to Pune with their Guru Dadoji Konddev. The original Lal Mahal was constructed with the intention of reviving Pune city.

By the end of the seventeenth century, the ruins of Lal Mahal had become ruined. Q. There were many attacks on this city. It is said that during the construction of Shaniwarwada, some of the clay and stone of the Lal Mahal were used as fate.

The existing Lal Mahal was built on only one part of the place where the original Lal Mahal was located. Just as the old Lal Mahal was built, the new Lal Mahal was not built and there is not much information about the area and composition of the old Lal Mahal. The present Lal Mahal has been built by the PMC. Its construction started in about 1984 and completed in 1988.

Historically, the Lal Mahal is famous for the battle between Shivaji and Shahista Khan. Where Shahis Khan was trying to escape from the window of the Lal Mahal, trying to save his life, Shivaji cut his fingers in his hand.

It was a largely guerrilla attack on a large and cavalier army of Mughal, who had captured the army of Khan Khan in Pune, who was Shivaji Maharaj's childhood home.

In spite of being less army than the number of weapons and the sentence of negligence of defeat, Mughal Emperor sent Shahistan Khan to Bengal.

In the Lal Mahal of the present, some important events of Shivaji's life are made from large oil paintings. In this idol of Rajmata, in which Shivaji Rajmata shows Jijabai walking with gold.

Model of fiber in which a mountaineer with Raigad appears and a big map of Shivaji's fort showing Maharashtra. The famous Jijamata garden has now become a garden of entertainment for children.

How to reach Lal Mahal 

From the road: You can reach Lal Mahal by a local vehicle in the city. You can also reach the palace with bus or rickshaw facility.

From Rail: Pune Railway Station is about 5 km from Lal Mahal.

From Airplane: Pune's Lohegaon Air Force Base Airport is about 11 km from Lal Mahal.
