In this article cover Topic : This proverb was originally used in William Shakespeare's play. 'The Merchant of Venice' and had the word glistens instead of glitter. Gold is known for its value and its shine makes this metal all the more attractive and valuable. There are umpteen things which score high on their physical attractiveness but have poor intrinsic value. The proposition of gold and glitters can't be apt in all the situations. Looks may be deceptive and this is where the proverb finds its context.

Since times immemorial, physical appearances have found an important place in our lives. This can be sensed in the work of poets, musicians, and artists of all the times. Even in today's world, the physical appearances have become paramount The choice one makes is guided by the face value of the things and people.

People are judged on the basis of their looks and dressing style. Virtues have taken a back seat. Undoubtedly, it is our physical appearances that make us different from others and provide us an 1dentity. But, at the same time, it is our character and the inner beauty that play an important role in helping an individual to create an identity of his own.

There are chances that a person has an attractive personality but may turn out to be unscrupulous On the other hand, there may be a person with no pleasing personality but has a good soul. This is backed by the fact that not every shining metal is gold Sadly, our society values external beauty more in comparison to the inner one.

In fact, the tremendous social pressure around the looks and physical appearances, has created a market of beauty and fairness products in India People are expected to live up to the set norms and standards of the society and abide by them.

The temptation and inclination of our society towards physical appearance is true to such an extent that the marketers have incorporated this as a part of their marketing strategy There are many organisations which have come out with low quality products which are packed beautifully.

What they tend to forget is that this external appearance may act as the magnet for the first time but can't sustain the customer. It is the quality which can hold the customer from looking at the alternatives. In fact, there is a section of people who are being easily duped by the fake products available in the market

The quality of anything can be judge only if we come to know the reality of a thing. Gold is gold if the inner metal is also gold Many things are made of inferior metal and to hide their defect, they are given a shine.

They look beautiful and attract many a person who loves beautiful objects. An object with a glittering shine of gold cannot be gold unless the whole object itself is gold All that glitters is not gold. All people wearing saffron clothes cannot be saints.

We need to grow as a society and value the person and things for their intrinsic value. It is only the knowledge and education that can create awareness among the masses. An ignorant individual can be misled easily. But in case a person has the knowledge, it is difficult to cheat him.

We all should think rationally without any biases. Just as the shining glass dazzle like diamonds, the appearances of a man can be misleading. A wise person never judge s a book by its cover and uses his own wisdom to reach some conclusion.

A person ought to be Judged on the basis of his talent and abilities. In no way the abilities and physical appearances can be proportional to each other. Gold cannot replace copper and vice versa. Each individual is unique and is blessed with his own sets of abilities and talents. We need to value and respect the 1ndividual for the same.
