Martyr's Day is celebrated in India to pay homage to those who fought for India's freedom, welfare and progress and sacrificed their lives. It is celebrated every year on January 30 throughout the year. India is among the 15 countries of the world, where martyrs' day is celebrated every year to pay tribute to their freedom fighters.

Mahatma Gandhi was born from birth but he considered himself a religion of humankind. According to him, war is a meager weapon and nonviolence is the best weapon to get freedom, he used to follow it.

In 2018 Martyrdom Day (Sarvoday Dewi) is celebrated in India on Friday, January 30 and Tuesday March 23.

Why is martyr's day celebrated on 30th January

Martyr's Day is celebrated every year on 30th January, when Mahatma Gandhi was attacked in the first year of sunset in 1948 during the evening prayers. He was the great freedom fighter of India and was counted as a great patriot between millions of martyrs. For the independence, development and public welfare of India, he struggled hard throughout his life. On January 30, Nathuram Godse was shot dead by Mahatma Gandhi, due to which the day has been declared as a martyr's day by the Indian government. Since then, martyrdom day is celebrated every year on January 30 to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi.

30 January 1948 is the most sad day for the country which became the poisonous day for Indian history. Gandhi Smriti is the place where Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated at the age of 78 in Birla House during the evening prayer.

Losing the Father of the Nation, which led to the hard victory of freedom, was the biggest misfortune for the country. His execution was in front of a large crowd who came to join the prayer meeting. After the attack on them, a lot of crowd was gathered to see them in the Birla House. Bapu was a great man who sacrificed his entire life for freedom fight with millions of men and women and later became martyrs.

Therefore, in India, the martyr's day is celebrated every year in remembrance of the entire Indian martyr and tribute is given to them. After India's independence, Bapu started a mission to create brotherhood, peace and harmony among the people of India, but he was killed during his mission.

Martyr day is celebrated on 23rd march

Shaheed Day is celebrated on March 23 in India to pay homage to Bhagat Singh, Shivram Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar and remember their sacrifices. Bhagat Singh, Shivram Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar took the iron from British rule for independence.

Born on September 28, 1907 in Lyallpur, Punjab, in the Sikh family, Bhagat Singh was known in the great freedom fighters of Indian history. His father was a member of the organization, popularly known as the Gadar Party, which worked for the freedom of India. Bhagat Singh had fought against lathi charge on Lala Lajpat Rai, along with his comrades Rajguru, Azad, Sukhdev and Jai Gopal. The adventure of martyr Bhagat Singh is working as an inspiration for the youth of today.

In the year 1929, on 8th April, with his colleagues throwing bombs, slogans sloganeering "Inquilab Zindabad" in the Central Legislative Assembly. A murder case was registered against them and hanged on March 23, 1931 in Lahore jail at 7:33 PM. The cremation of his body was on the banks of river Sutlej. Presently, a very large martyr fair is held at the national martyr monument in Hussainwala (Indo-Pak border), in his birth place Ferozepur.

How Martyr day celebrated

On this day, along with the National President of India, the Vice President, the Prime Minister, the Minister of Defense and the Chiefs of Service, are offering floral wreaths at the shrine of Bapu on Rajghat. In order to honor the martyrs, an honorary salute is given after inter-service detachment and the forces of the forces.

After this, the people gathered there keep silence for two minutes in memory of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi and other martyrs of the country. On the same place, religious prayers and hymns are sung by those who love them.

Children from Kolkata schools on this day play a role in making the form of Bapu. During the celebration of martyr's day various programs related to Bapu's life are done by schoolchildren.

However, in order to honor the other martyrs of the nation in India, it has been announced to celebrate more than one martyr's day (also known as Sarvodaya Day at the national level).

13 July

In order to remember the deaths of 22 people, Jummu in India and Kashmir is celebrated as a martyr's day on 13th July. In the year 1931, during the demonstration near Maharaja Hari Singh of Kashmir, he was killed by the Royal soldiers.

17th of November

To celebrate the death anniversary of Lala Lajpat Rai (famously known as the lion of Punjab), celebrated on the day of November 17 as a martyr's day in Oriya. He was a great leader and freedom fighter during the independence of India from the British Raj.

In Jhansi state (Rani Laxmibai's Birthday) is celebrated as martyr day on 19th November. It is celebrated to give respect to those who sacrificed their lives during the revolution of the year 1857.
