The International Day of Visitation is celebrated every year on the second Thursday of October. This was first launched by the Lions Club International Foundation in the year 2000 under the first vision of vision. This day is celebrated to create awareness about vision loss, blindness and other vision related problems. About 90% of blind people are living in low-income countries. 39 million people of the total population are blind and around 65% of the visually impaired people are over 50 years of age. The International Vision Day supports an important communication and advocacy on Eye Health Calendar. It is focused on drawing attention on sight loss and blindness.

History of International Day of Vision (World Sight Day)

The Lions Club International Foundation marked this day with the help of the International Agency for the Prevention of Immorality by the World Health Organization in 2000. There is some such disease that draws attention to International Day of Vision such as Trachoma, Low Vision, Cataract, Glaucoma, Refractive Error and Diabetic Retinopathy.

The main purpose of IPAB is to connect national-level programs to non-governmental organizations, interested persons, professional bodies and educational institutions to prevent blindness. The foundation of the program for the prevention of blindness of World Health Organization was the primary major achievement of IPAB, after which both entered the certified relationship.

Vision 2020 "Right to Vision"

Vision 2020 "Right to vision" is a global non-profit corporation dedicated to improving the lives of people suffering from vision loss. This is global action for destruction from blindness. Vision 2020 was established in 1999 by the International Agency for Prevention of Blindness (IPAB) and the World Health Organization (WHO). At present, the Global Action Plan is the most recent action plan and it repeats the Vision 2020 "Right of vision".

It is celebrated mainly by the Health Minister and participating in indiscriminate prevention programs and making money available to make it an impact on the governments. It is also marked for raising public awareness for vision and creating blindness in the form of major international public health problems.

The main objective of World Vision Day is to educate the audience about Vision 2020 and its activities and to provide support for Vision 2020 and blindness prevention program activities.

Thursday, October 12, 2017, was the theme of International Vision Day "Count Vision". The theme was kept to reveal statistics on blindness and people could know where they were standing.

Now, in terms of statistics, in the year 2010, only 28% of the world's population was affected by a small vision and this number could increase up to 34% by 2020 and up to 50% by 2050. In 2014, 108 million people had diabetes, whereas this number was only 49 million in 1980 and one in three people suffering from diabetes was diabetic retinopathy. Apart from this, one in 10 people can develop dangerous aspects of the disease.

In Australia more than 4,00,000 people are blind or are suffering from vision disease. Thus Australia celebrates this day with more enthusiasm. The Australian government believes that it is very important to ensure proper treatment and early detection to prevent eye diseases.
