National Yo-Yo Day - June 6, 2019 - Fastread.in

National Yo-Yo Day is celebrated every day on 6th June. The National Yo-Yo day celebrates the historic toy and the perfect day to take out Yo-Yo, and try the hand in The Slipper, shooting the moon, the world, Walk the Dog or Hop the Fence. Yo-Yo is an object in which there are axes attached to the size of two disks and the length of the string around the axle is loop. It is played by holding the end of the series which is free, which allows gravity and the force of the spin that throws the yo-yo and opens the string, then yo-yo allows itself to blow back. This is called "yo-yo".

7 cool things you didn’t know about yo-yos

Yo-Yo is really an ancient toy

From about 500 BC there is a Greek vase painting that shows a boy playing with a yo-yo - it's over 1,500 years old! They made their yo-yo from wood, metal and terracotta (a type of pot made from baked clay).

Yo-Yo was really popular in old Europe

During the 18th century, Yo-Yo became very popular throughout Europe, but had its own names for it. In Britain, he called it a bandler or a quiz (yes like a test), and in France it was known as an illusionary or a covalent. Everyone likes to play with yo-yo and there are reports of playing with one of the young King Louis XVII, Napoleon and his army, who was Yo-Yo in the famous Battle of Waterloo, and even Prince of Wales. Also used to play with them.

You can thank Pedro Flores for your Yo-Yo

A Filipino American named Pedro Flores opened a toy factory in California in the 1920s and became the first person to make the modern Yo-Yo. They became so popular that businessman Donald Duncan bought Pedro's company and made 3,600 yo-yo in Wisconsin city's Lankad city one year. It is now known as "Yo-Yo Capital of the World".

Yo-Yo wood was up to the 60's

Yo-Yo was not made of plastic until the 1960s. They were originally made from wood, which meant they had an uneven spin due to variation in wood density! In the 1990s, they started rolling them out of metal.

You Can Be Yo-Yo World Champion

"The world's largest wooden yo-yo" can be found in a yo-yo museum located in Chico, California. It is so big that it raised 116 kilograms in the Guinness Book of World Records in 1982. And apparently it works, but takes a crane to be able to lift it. He has the world's largest performance Yo-Yo, Yo-Yo memorabilia and awards.

Yo-yo in space!

In 1985, NASA had a "Toys in Space" project as part of their Space Shuttle Discovery Mission. They took 11 toys into space, including a yo-yo. They hoped to see how microbiology (or weightlessness) would have an effect on it. They came to know that you can release yo-yo, but without the force of gravity it will not "sleep" (this is where it rotates at the end of the string) and the string will return.
