For what duration is the Lok Sabha elected? Can this period be extended, if so, under what circumstances and for how long?
The normal duration of the lok Sabha is five years from the date of its first meeting, but it can be dissolved earlier by the President. This period can be extended during he operation of any emergency proclamation for a period of one year at time. The extension of life, however, cannot be continued for more than six months after the proclamation ceases to operate.
